Germany energy firm EnBW (Energie Baden-Württemberg AG) has opened an integrated energy park in Gundelsheim, Baden-Württemberg. The site combines solar, wind, and battery storage in one location. The first phase, a 58 MW solar park with 110,000 modules on 55 hectares, was commissioned and can supply about 30,000 households. The park included a hybrid storage facility using twelve Audi e-tron batteries and a sodium-ion system, with 2.25 MWh capacity and 1.22 MW output, noted as the largest sodium-ion battery installation in Europe. The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems researched the coupling of technologies under a federal-supported project. The site also delivered regional economic benefits through rental income and trade tax, along with ecological measures such as wildflower strips, a wildlife corridor, and a restored fire pond.
