The study by Ember Energy shows that Türkiye has doubled its solar capacity in 2.5 years. By the end of 2024, the capacity reached 19.6 GW, surpassing the 2025 target ahead of schedule.
Since mid-2022, 94% of this growth has come from self-consumption installations.
The country avoided $15 billion in natural gas imports through solar and wind energy over the same period. A pipeline of 33 GW in pre-licensed storage-integrated solar and wind projects exceeds the official 2030 target of 2.1 GW. The 2035 solar target has been revised to 77 GW, a 45% increase from previous plans. Türkiye has increased its use of hybrid, floating, and storage-integrated solar power to support growth. The National Energy Plan needs updates to match the new 2035 targets. Since the 2025 solar target has already been reached, the 2030 goals should be revised. Including these updates in national climate plans will help meet energy demand and global climate goals.
