EDP and Microsoft ink 389 MW VPPA for Illinois and Texas solar projects

Microsoft signed a virtual power purchase agreement with EDP Renewables for 389 MW from three solar projects—140 MW, 110 MW, and 150 MW—in Illinois and Texas.

Microsoft secured 389 MW from EDP Renewables' Jacksonville, Jerseyville, and Austin solar projects through virtual agreements.

 Renewable energy developer, EDP Renewables North America has announced that it delivered three utility-scale solar projects and signed a long-term virtual power purchase agreement with Microsoft. The projects have generated about 400 MW, with Microsoft purchasing around 389 MW through virtual agreements. EDP stated that two projects in Illinois—a 140 MW solar farm in Jacksonville and a 110 MW park near Jerseyville—began operations in November. A third 150 MW solar park near Austin, Texas, became operational in December. The announcement brought EDP’s total operational portfolio with Microsoft in the US to five projects. Tech companies-built AI data centers and used cleaner energy to cut emissions.
