Ecoener, a Spanish multinational renewable energy producer, has started commercial operation of the 74.7 MW El Carrizo solar plant in San José, Escuintla, Guatemala. The project increased Ecoener’s operational capacity above 500 MW, a 47% rise from the previous year. Since 2024, the company invested €116 million () in Yolanda and El Carrizo plants, totaling 148.4 MW, and operated the 14.2 MW Las Fuentes hydro plant since 2016. El Carrizo, the largest photovoltaic plant in Guatemala, covered 112 hectares with 137,000 modules and was financed by Grupo Financiero BAC. The facility was designed to produce 157 GWh annually under a ten-year PPA, supplying about 39,250 homes and avoiding 58,090 tons of CO₂ each year. Construction created over 280 jobs, with 46% filled by local workers and one third by women.
