Pennsylvania based Duquesne Light Company, an electric utility, in partnership with Pittsburgh International Airport and IMG Energy Solutions, has announced an expansion of the airport’s solar field. The project added 11,216 solar panels atop a closed landfill, generating an additional 4.7 megawatts of clean energy and reducing carbon emissions by about 5 million pounds per year. The electricity produced fed into the regional grid, supporting DLC’s clean energy goals. The expansion complemented the airport’s eight-acre, 23-megawatt microgrid, which launched in 2021. The new solar project covered 12 acres and was set for completion in 2027. IMG owned and operated the field, supplying 100% of the energy and Renewable Energy Credits to DLC for its default service customers.
