Wombat Solar, a US-based solar project developer, was halted from advancing its proposed 400 MW project in Crawford County, Ohio. Crawford County Commissioners voted to ban all solar development without offering a public explanation, despite public support from residents and union representatives. According to Wombat Solar, the project had already begun preliminary development and was expected to become the county’s largest taxpayer. The company had committed to hiring local union workers under Ohio’s Three Trades Solar Agreement with IBEW, IUOE, and LiUNA. Labor leaders said the project would have created hundreds of union jobs and generated tax revenue for local infrastructure and schools. Union representatives expressed frustration following the decision and emphasized that workers would be forced to seek jobs elsewhere. They have pledged continued support and urged commissioners to reconsider for the sake of economic stability.
