Clean Energy Council reported that rooftop solar installations in Australia kept increasing in 2024. More than 300,000 new systems were installed for the fifth year in a row. The total number of installations crossed four million. Rooftop solar generated 30,178 GWh of electricity in 2024. This was 12.4% of Australia’s total power, up from 11.2% in 2023. Household battery use also increased. In 2024, 74,582 batteries were installed, up from 46,127 the year before. However, only 28.4% of solar users had battery storage. New South Wales had the most battery sales, followed by Victoria and Queensland. The Clean Energy Council said high upfront costs made battery adoption difficult, with prices between $12,000 and $15,000. The council suggested a national rebate of up to $6,500 per household. It said more battery use could help lower energy bills and reduce grid costs by $190 million by 2030.
