The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), wholly owned by the Government of Canada, has partnered with George Gordon Development Limited (GGDL) to fund the 32.4 MW Wicehtowak Solar project in Dufferin, Saskatchewan, with a $42 million loan. Located on Treaty 4 territory, the project supplies renewable power to the Saskatchewan grid and the nearby K+S Potash Canada mine under a 30-year power agreement. The partnership has allowed George Gordon First Nation to take full ownership, creating jobs, income and training for the community members. The solar farm includes 66,175 bifacial panels and is expected to cut 21,686 tons of emissions every year. Local workers were trained in solar installation, equipment handling and safety. Natural Resources Canada supported the initiative with a $33 million grant through the Smart Renewables Electrification Pathways Program.
