The Japanese subsidiary of Blueleaf Energy, Blueleaf Energy Japan, has initiated the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for a 50MW (AC) / 100MW (DC) solar project. The project is planned on the former Ashibetsu Coal Mine site in Hokkaido, spanning 114.5 hectares. About 154,000 panels rated at 650W each are to be installed. The company has submitted the main environmental impact document on 1 August 2025. The Construction is planned for 2029, and operations are expected by 2031. No extra high-voltage renewable plants are currently operating in Ashibetsu. However, smaller FIT-certified solar projects by Renewable Japan were commissioned between 2018 and 2020. Blueleaf Energy has operated in Japan since 2021 through Hinode Energy, a joint venture with Univergy. As of Q2 2025, it had a direct pipeline of 88.5MW (DC) solar and 2GWh storage.

A 100 MW (DC) solar project is planned at the former Ashibetsu coal mine by Blueleaf Energy Japan, backed by Macquarie and partnered with Univergy, with operations by 2031.
