India's Bescom has initiated a plan to install solar panels on 15 lake beds across Bengaluru and nearby districts under the PM-KUSUM-C scheme. The initiative was launched due to limited availability of government and private land for solar projects. Permissions were obtained from the Minor Irrigation and RDPR departments. Construction has started at Sulibele Lake with a 5 MW system and at Kundabana Lake with a 6 MW setup. Each 1 MW installation requires about four acres of land. Deputy commissioners were directed to identify suitable government land to complete the 60 MW target. Lakes are linked to the Arkavathy, Vrushabhavathi, and KC Valley projects were excluded. Karnataka has targeted 39,000 MW of capacity under the scheme, with tenders already issued for 24,000 MW across the state.
