Maaden Bauxite and Alumina Company (MBAC), a subsidiary of Maaden, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Emerge, the joint venture of Masdar and EDF. Under the agreement, Emerge has developed an off-grid energy facility for the Al Baitha Bauxite Mine in Saudi Arabia. The project includes an 8 MW ground-mounted solar array and a 30 MWh battery storage system. It is expected to generate about 17,300 MWh of electricity annually, ensuring round-the-clock power supply. The facility was designed to reduce around 13,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Emerge has provided a turnkey solution covering financing, design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance. The initiative is aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of reducing emissions and advancing clean energy use.
