Alight, a Nordic solar developer, has received a multi-million-euro grant from the European Commission’s Innovation Fund 2024 for a 120 MW solar and 45 MW BESS project in Loviisa, Finland, co-developed with 3Flash. The project was selected from 61 winners from 373 applicants, and is designed around agrivoltaics, integrating solar generation with agricultural use. The project will use AI and tracking systems to improve power generation and farming output. It is covering 225 hectares, and it is expected to generate 155 GWh of electricity each year, enough for about 31,000 homes. It is currently going through the zoning process, with construction planned for 2026. A corporate power purchase deal is being negotiated, and the grant agreement with the European Commission is expected to be signed by March 2026. It represents Finland’s growing participation in EU-funded renewable innovation.
