ACWA Power, a Global energy and water infrastructure, has secured contracts to develop and operate Noor Midelt II and III in Morocco. Each project has 400MW solar PV capacity and is integrated with battery storage totaling 602MWh. The systems can discharge up to 230MW over two hours. Both will operate under a 30-year PPA with MASEN using a Build–Own–Operate model. These were initially designed as 500MW PV-CSP hybrid plants. In 2024, Morocco’s Energy Ministry and grid operator ONEE called for replacing CSP components in the 800MW Noor Midelt Phase 1, awarded in 2019 to EDF Renewables, Masdar, and Green of Africa. Construction had not started by February 2024. In March, ACWA Power reported an outage at its 150MW Noor III CSP plant. MASEN confirmed operations resumed in April 2025.In the same year,ACWA Power sealed an $8.3 billion agreement in Saudi Arabia to advance 15GW of green energy capacity.
