Activ8 Energies, an Ireland-based solar panel provider partly owned by SSE Airtricity, has acquired UK-based Low Carbon Energy. Low Carbon Energy, founded in 2009, is a solar developer that has delivered over 60 MW of installed capacity across 300 sites nationwide. Its projects have included clients such as BMW, Porsche, Co-op, Boeing, Tata Steel, Drax Power, and the NHS. According to Activ8 Energies, the acquisition transferred 100% of Low Carbon Energy’s shareholding, with Managing Director Benedict Ennis continuing operations and founder Ged Ennis remaining as non-executive director. Activ8 Energies has also developed a £3 million (~ $4.1 million) solar farm at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, which is scheduled to provide 25% of the airport’s electricity from next month. Activ8 Energies has said that the acquisition is expected to help double turnover and installed capacity while advancing UK-wide solar projects.
