Avangrid starts power production from True North Solar project

Avangrid, Inc., a USbased sustainable energy company within the Iberdrola Group, has initiated power production at the True North solar project in Falls County, Texas. The company has currently commissioned 20 MW, with the project expected to reach 238 MWac (321 MWdc) and become Avangrid’s first solar installation. According to the company, True North will support Meta’s net-zero commitment by powering its upcoming data center in Temple, Texas. Commercial operations are slated to begin by the end of 2024, delivering power to the Texas grid. The project will generate over $40 million in property taxes, benefiting local public services. Avangrid’s Texas operations include over 1.2 GW of wind capacity, with more than $100 million already paid in property taxes from existing facilities, highlighting its significant local economic impact.
