Queensland Treasury, a Brisbane-based state finance and economic policy department, together with the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority, has launched the Solar for Rental Properties Rebate Scheme. The proposal is aimed to ease electricity costs for tenants in eligible Queensland rentals. The scheme is offering rebates of up to $3,500 per residence, with caps of $2,500 for systems between 3 kW and under 4 kW, $3,000 for 4 kW to under 5 kW, and $3,500 for systems of 5 kW or larger. To qualify, landlords must be Australian residents who own Class 1a, individually metered Queensland dwellings without existing solar, where tenants are responsible for some or all electricity charges and rent at conditional approval does not exceed $1,000 per week. Eligible systems must be at least 3kW, include a generation signalling device, and use Clean Energy Council–approved inverters and modules, supplied by New Energy Tech Approved Sellers. Applicants then have 150 days after receiving conditional approval to arrange installation by appropriately accredited, licensed electricians and submit final documentation to QRIDA.
