Edify Energy, one of Australia’s renewable developers, has sought federal approval for the Nowingi Solar Power Station in northwest Victoria. The station includes a 300 MW (AC) solar farm and a co-located 300 MW / 2,400 MWh battery energy storage system. The system is planned on a 639-hectare site located 50 kilometres south of Mildura. Mildura’s proximity enables connection to AusNet’s existing 220 kV transmission line through a new substation. The substation forms part of a proposal currently under review under the EPBC Act. The Act governs impacts on the site, which supports cropping, grazing, and habitat for up to 10 listed species. Species protection is addressed by Edify’s plan to allow continued sheep grazing across the project land. The land will see construction activity begin in 2026, with an estimated duration of 18 months. Months of peak work are expected to employ around 250 workers on site.Earlier, the company signed 20-year PV and battery agreements with Rio Tinto, marking a major step in long-term energy partnerships.
