The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has launched a $60 million R&D funding round to advance ultra low-cost solar in Australia. The funding is split between improving solar cells and reducing system and maintenance costs, aiming to cut installed costs to 30 cents per watt and bring LCOE below $20 per MWh by 2030. Universities, research groups, start-ups, and entrepreneurs are eligible to apply. ARENA has already invested $388 million in solar R&D and $104 million in ACAP. Previous support has improved efficiency, reliability, and AI-based monitoring, while enabling advances like tandem cells, lightweight panels, recycling solutions, and new manufacturing methods.
