Iraq and the United States has signed a memorandum of understanding for projects, including 24 GW of power plants. Iraq's Ministry of Electricity also signed a separate MOU with US-based UGT Renewables to develop a 3 GW integrated solar energy project. The agreements were announced by the Iraqi prime minister's media office. The development came after the US administration withdrew a sanctions waiver that had enabled Iraq to pay Iran for electricity since 2018. Iraq has been using Iranian imports for power generation and has been urged by the US to lower its reliance on these energy supplies.
