France-based TotalEnergies and US-based Google have signed a 15-year PPA to supply 1.5 TWh of renewable electricity from the Montpelier solar farm in Ohio. The project was nearing completion and was connected to the PJM grid to support Google’s data centers in the state. Google said the deal aligned with its approach to add carbon-free energy in its operating regions. TotalEnergies said the agreement supported its strategy that to provide energy solutions for data centers, which used about 3 percent of global electricity in 2024. The company was developing a 10 GW US portfolio across solar, wind and storage, including 1 GW in PJM and 4 GW in ERCOT. The PPA followed earlier agreements with companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Air Liquide and others.
