US-based independent power producer, Silicon Ranch has partnered with Central Electric Power Cooperative to build a 100 MW solar farm in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, to support Meta’s first data center in the state. The project was the fourth collaboration between Silicon Ranch and Central. It was also the 18th between Silicon Ranch and Meta, totaling over 1.5 GW across four states. Central agreed to purchase energy for its 19 member cooperatives, with Aiken Electric Cooperative serving the Meta facility in Sage Mill Industrial Park. Meta secured renewable energy credits, while Silicon Ranch invested over $100 million, estimating $8 million in new tax revenues. Nearly all equipment was sourced in the US, and the project was expected to begin operations in 2027. Earlier to this, Silicon Ranch backed Swap Robotics in expanding its agrivoltaics operations
