Powertrust, a renewable energy procurement platform, has announced a collaboration with Microsoft to deploy 270 MW of distributed solar across Mexico and Brazil over four years. The agreement was structured around Microsoft purchasing RECs from the planned assets to support its 2030 carbon-negative target and wider Scope 3 strategy. Powertrust said the portfolio was designed for underserved areas with limited clean energy access. The projects were planned to deliver bill savings, job opportunities, and training programs for local workers. Additional measures were expected to involve NGOs and community leaders to guide development and maintain long-term engagement. Powertrust noted that the partnership also supported education, healthcare, and infrastructure initiatives. Statements from both companies indicated that the collaboration was intended to expand distributed solar while strengthening community-focused outcomes.
