Canada-based PowerBank Corporation has announced progress on two community solar projects in Skaneateles, New York. The projects are located on industrial brownfield sites in Onondaga County. They have secured municipal approvals, including site plan approval, variances and a special use permit. PowerBank is now pursuing clearance from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. Construction is expected to begin once permits and financing are obtained. On completion, the projects are expected to supply power for 2,100 homes. Both will operate under a community solar model, allowing subscribers to earn bill credits. PowerBank has delivered over 100 MW of solar capacity and has a pipeline exceeding 1 GW. The projects advance New York’s 6 GW solar target under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act by 2025.
