Northern Sun Energy, a US-based engineering, procurement, and construction company for solar and storage projects, has energized a 13 MW behind-the-meter PV installation at the Poland Spring manufacturing facility in Maine. The installation has been developed on approximately 50 acres of company-owned land supporting Poland Spring bottling and manufacturing operations located near Portland. Onyx Renewables owns the PV installation, while Northern Sun Energy has served as general contractor with Powerflex participating in EPC execution activities. The PV system includes more than 23,000 Canadian Solar modules mounted on OMCO fixed-tilt racking with C-channel foundations and SMA Sunny Highpower PEAK3 inverters. Installation work required the PV feeder route to cross two active asphalt roadways supporting continuous 24/7 plant traffic at the manufacturing facility. Engineering teams used hydro-vac excavation to expose a concrete duct bank containing two parallel feeders connected from a local substation.
