Canada-based Mitrex has completed a Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) project at SunRise Residential in Edmonton, Alberta, which earned a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest solar panel mural. Spanning over 30,000 square feet and delivering more than 265 kW of solar capacity, the installation was designed using Mitrex’seFacade PRO plus panels. The mural, created by Indigenous artist Lance Cardinal, blends Indigenous and Chinese cultural symbolism to reflect Edmonton’s community heritage. The project was developed in collaboration with Avenue Living, MBC Group, and Chandos Construction, and integrated into the building using standard installation systems without requiring specialized methods. The solar system supports a significant portion of the building’s energy use and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 150 tons annually. Manufactured in Ontario, the BIPV panels also contribute to lower operational costs while transforming an aging high-rise into a functional and cultural landmark.
