Haven Energy, a climate tech company, announced a program to use California’s $280 million Self-Generation Incentive Program Residential Solar & Storage Equity (SGIP RSSE) fund. It is planned to give free solar panels and batteries to low-to-moderate income homeowners. Haven kept ownership of the systems to collect rebates, tax credits, and earnings, while homeowners saved money on their electric bills and got backup power. The program solved the problem of high solar installation costs and rising energy needs in California, helping homeowners cut bills by up to 90%. Homeowners also joined a ten-year program to help balance the power grid. Haven aimed to build 10 MW of total energy capacity, making one of California’s biggest virtual power plants. It partnered with The Energy Coalition and Clean Power Alliance to reach more homes. The funding could help 8,000 to 10,000 households, based on who applied first.
