US-based renewable energy developer, Geronimo Power has begun onsite construction of the 250 MW Portage Solar Project in Portage County, Wisconsin. The project joins Apple River Solar, which entered construction earlier this year in Polk County. According to Geronimo Power, Portage Solar is expected to generate over $73 million in direct economic impact over its first 20 years, including $24 million in new tax revenue for local governments. The project has also committed $1.25 million to local charities through a dedicated fund. Geronimo Power has partnered with Burns & McDonnell for engineering, procurement, and construction, with plans to fill over 300 construction roles using local Wisconsin labor. Together with Apple River Solar, Geronimo Power has projected a combined statewide economic benefit of more than $100 million.
