CPS Energy, the municipal utility of San Antonio, Texas, has issued a Request For Proposal (RFP) to procure up to 600 MW of solar energy through one or more PPAs. The RFP supported the utility’s approved Vision 2027 generation plan for the San Antonio area. CPS Energy said that every MW mattered in meeting regional electricity needs and noted its position as the largest purchaser of solar energy in Texas. The utility expected its solar capacity to exceed 1.6 GW once the RFP concluded, with more than 1 GW already operating. CPS Energy has also planned to issue a battery storage RFP by year-end following 470 MW of contracted battery capacity announced previously. The RFP deadline was set for January 8, 2026, at 11:45 p.m. Central Time.
