London-based ContourGlobal, a green energy transition firm, began operations at the Quillagua solar plant in María Elena, Antofagasta. It has 221 MW of photovoltaic capacity and a 1.2 GWh battery system that delivers 200 MW for 6.2 hours after sunset. It is the largest solar-plus-storage plant in Latin America. The plant is entering commercial operation and will supply energy through a long-term agreement. A second project, Victor Jara in Tarapacá, with 231 MW and 1.3 GWh storage, is expected later in 2025. Both were acquired from Grenergy in 2024 and together will generate 1,300 GWh annually. Quillagua created 313 direct and 176 indirect jobs and includes 452,000 solar panels, 5,000 trackers, 267 battery units, 44 transformers, and 90 inverters.
