US-headquartered Comstock Inc. announced that its subsidiary, Comstock Metals, received unanimous approval for a conditional use permit from Lyon County, Nevada. The permit allows expanded solar panel storage near its planned industrial-scale recycling facility in Silver Springs. The permit allowed storage expansion to support logistics and customer demand. Comstock Metals planned to process 100,000 tons of solar panel waste annually, with commissioning expected in the first quarter of 2026 and equipment orders scheduled for summer 2025. The facility had operated for over a year and used proprietary thermal methods to produce 100% recyclable, commodity-ready materials. All panel components, including glass, aluminum, and fines, were fully recycled. Comstock Metals was the first in North America to be certified to the R2v3/RIOS standard and Appendix G, enabling zero-waste repurposing into new commercial applications.
