US-based power generation company, Competitive Power Ventures, has started commercial operations at the 160 MW CPV Backbone Solar project in Garrett County, Maryland. According to CPV Renewable Power, the solar facility was developed on reclaimed coal mine land and has expanded Maryland’s utility-scale generation capacity. The facility was backed by Harrison Street Asset Management, a Chicago-headquartered investment manager focused on real assets. CPV Renewable Power said the project includes nearly 3,24,000 solar panels and was designed to supply electricity to nearly 30,000 households. According to US Bank, the project has secured solar tax equity financing as part of its structured funding. The facility was constructed by Vanguard Energy Partners, which stated that complex site conditions were managed through tailored engineering and construction execution.
