Avantus, a San Diego-headquartered renewable energy company, announced that it has signed 15 year power purchase agreements with Southern California Edison, a Rosemead-based electricity utility,The agreement is made for the Aratina 2 solar and storage project in eastern Kern County. According to Avantus, the project will supply 150 MW AC solar capacity and 452 MWh battery storage to the California grid beginning in 2026. Avantus said that early onsite work was initiated through shared Aratina 1 infrastructure, while major construction is expected to ramp up next year. Avantus has added that Aratina 2 will support local employment, generate county revenues, and operate alongside Aratina 1 as part of its long-term ownership strategy, with the agreements subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission.
