US-based Avangrid, a renewable energy firm, has announced that commercial operations have begun at its 202 MW (DC) Powell Creek Solar project in Putnam County, Ohio. This follows earlier energy export to the grid in April, confirming full commissioning and operational readiness. The project is Avangrid’s second in Ohio and supports demand from growing electrification, manufacturing, and data center expansion. Located near Miller City, the plant includes over 300,000 solar panels and supported around 500 local union jobs during construction. It is supplying electricity to approximately 30,000 homes annually and boosting grid capacity ahead of summer peaks. Powell Creek is expected to contribute $31 million in lifetime tax revenue and $1.1 million in yearly land lease payments. Notably, Miller City will use project revenue for a new sewer line to support housing and business growth. Avangrid added nearly 600 MW nationwide in six months, expanding its U.S. operating capacity to 10.5 GW.
