AES Indiana, a US-based retail electric utility and AES Corporation subsidiary, has placed the Petersburg Energy Center into service. The facility includes 250 MW of PV generation using more than 515,000 solar panels alongside 180 MWh battery storage capacity. According to the company, the project was identified in its 2022 Integrated Resource Plan to replace retiring Petersburg Units 1 and 2. AES Indiana said the facility supports Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) seasonal capacity requirements while supplying electricity to more than 100,000 homes. The project qualifies as an Energy Community, which increases the investment tax credit from 26% to 40%.
