US-based Ameresco, Inc., in partnership with the City of Edmundston and Edmundston Energy, has unveiled the SOLSTICE microgrid project. It features a 1 MW rooftop solar array and a 2 MWh BESS system. These installations are located at the Jean-Daigle Centre and Sports Pavilion. The $8 million project is one of the largest rooftop solar initiatives in the Atlantic region. It aims to reduce carbon emissions by about 360 metric tons annually. The project supports Edmundston’s 2024-2028 Environmental Action Plan. As per Ameresco, it will ensure backup power for key facilities, including the Sports Pavilion, which serves as an emergency response center. Additionally, it will provide hands-on learning for students from Cité-des-Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany, UMCE, and CCNB. The microgrid is set to be operational by summer 2025.
