The 26.6 MWp Zina solar power plant in Burkina Faso was recently commissioned by Amea Power, an Emirati company. The plant is financed through a public-private partnership with Burkina Faso’s government. The plant spans 70 hectares and is expected to provide electricity to over 43,000 people, offsetting 13,200 tonnes of CO2 annually. project Funding came from the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), with additional support from the IFC-Canada Climate Change Program. The plant operates under a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Burkina Faso National Electricity Company (SONABEL). With this addition, Burkina Faso’s solar capacity now totals 182.6 MWp.
