France-based Akuo recently inaugurated the 181 MW Santas solar plant in Portugal’s Alentejo region. To expand the project by an additional 45 MW, Akuo has initiated a €1 million crowdfunding campaign aimed at Portuguese citizens and businesses. The plant commenced electricity generation in May 2024 and is currently capable of powering over 100,000 homes annually. The facility utilizes 336,448 photovoltaic panels, effectively reducing carbon emissions by over 70,000 metric tons each year. The plant is said to emit only 27 gCO2e/kWh, compared to the industry average of 44 gCO2e/kWh. Supported by MEAG and Eiffel Investment Group, the Santas solar plant contributes to Akuo’s broader renewable energy portfolio, totaling 540 MW. Contributions to this crowdfunding campaign start at €100 through Lendosphere.
