Akuo, a renewable energy producer, has secured a pilot agrivoltaics project from Portugal’s National Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Funded by the Portuguese Agenda for Agricultural Innovation, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) of NextGenerationEU, the initiative involves ten entities, including INIAV and a producer’s association. Situated in Alcobaça, the experimental Fruitpv project operates within INIAV’s innovation hub. Akuo, with support from Agriterra, will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of agrivoltaic solutions, initially focusing on Fuji apple trees. The project aims to produce comprehensive reports, study adaptability to other crops, and establish a pilot corporate model for a renewable energy community. This effort is aimed to boosts Portugal’s agricultural and energy autonomy amid land constraints.
