The African Development Bank Group approved EUR 28 million (~$29.20 million) to build two 15 MW solar plants in Gassi and Lamadji, Chad, under the Desert to Power program. The funding included EUR 20 million (~$20.86 million) in loans and grants and EUR 8 million in guarantees from the African Development Fund and Green Climate Fund.The project aimed to boost Chad’s power supply by 20%, generate 61 GWh annually, and cut carbon emissions by 49,000 tons per year. It included battery storage, created 200 construction jobs, and reduced reliance on fuel-based power and energy imports. Total project costs were estimated at EUR 41 million.
